How to Prepare Files for Print

September 13th, 2010 · No Comments

A guide to preparing trouble-free files for print production. According to a 1997 Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) survey almost 58% of all files entering prepress production fail. Most of the errors are quite common and could easily be avoided. At Transcontinental we believe that good communication means good files, and good files mean a faster, more predictable production workflow. In order to help our clients produce reliable files and avoid production headaches, we have created this file preparation guide outlining our file requirements.
The specifications and standards cited in this guide are common industry standards and correspond to those outlined by GRACOL – the Graphic Requirements for Applications in Commercial Offset Lithography. In addition to reading this guide, we recommend you visit the GRACOL website (http://www.gracol.com/) for valuable information on file preparation.
Please read this guide over carefully before you start file preparation. If you have any questions about this information, please contact your customer service representative and they will be happy to pass your query on to one of our experienced support staff.
ACCEPTED SOFTWARE VERSIONS
Upgrading software too quickly can be as problematic as allowing software to become out-of-date. As a general rule, do not upgrade your software until the first round of patches has been released. We also encourage you to visit our website or talk to your Customer Service Representative before upgrading key software to find out which versions Transcontinental supports. This information will be posted on the on the Technical Support Page of the Transcontinental Website and will be updated regularly.
