SmartMove Quick Reference Guide

October 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

SmartMove, from Enigma Data Solutions, migrates, copies, moves or archives data accessible either locally, or through CIFS or NFS, from primary to secondary storage (e.g. disk, Centera and tape).

SmartMove Platforms
SmartMove runs on:
• Windows (2000,2003)
• Solaris (8,9 & 10)
• Linux (Ask for our interoperability matrix, key Linux releases are supported)

‘Migration Mode’ Behaviour
• On NFS (Unix/Linux), SmartMove writes symbolic links on the primary pointing to the migrated data on secondary.
• On CIFS (Windows), SmartMove writes shortcuts on the primary pointing to the migrated data on secondary.
• With EMC FileMover on CIFS or NFS, A placeholder stub file is created on the primary storage data is recalled by the Celerra.

SmartMove and NAS
Unlike much HSM software, SmartMove can migrate data from any CIFS or NFS accessible primary (including EMC and Netapp NAS) to any CIFS or NFS accessible secondary. It does not require any agents or extra file system software to run on the primary or secondary device. SmartMove is included in the Celerra Interoperability Matrix.
